AI can write your Legal CV, but what it can’t do is…

AI is a powerful tool. Feed it the right inputs, and it can churn out a sharp, professional CV in seconds. Legal formatting? Check. Bullet points with action verbs? Done. But here’s the catch: AI doesn’t understand the psychology behind CV writing.
It doesn’t know how to strategically position certain experiences over others, frame that six-month paralegal role to reassure a Magic Circle recruiter, or carefully place a “pro bono initiative” so that it signals leadership, empathy, and values that align with modern firms. It won’t read between the lines of your experience to draw out the story that sells you.
AI is only as good as the direction you give it. If you feed it raw facts, it’ll give you a competent but cold document. If you guide it with intention – knowing what you want to emphasise, what the firm cares about, and what image you’re trying to project – then it can become a useful tool.
But wait.
Do you really want AI detectors to pick up on your CV and cover letter? Even by the human eye, it isn’t hard to figure out AI generated language. After all, its not human. It can’t give it that personal touch. AI humanisers only make the language more colloquial.
So yes, AI can help write your CV. But don’t forget: the most compelling legal CVs aren’t just written. They’re designed – with purpose, psychology, and a deep understanding of what makes you a standout in a sea of technically identical candidates.
